Transportation

Traditionally, traffic and parking within the town walls is admitted for a few hours per day, only. The access to the historical centre is allowed for fetching from or deposit the luggage at the hotels. Parking in the historical centre during the traffic opening hours is limited to one hour only. It is recommended the cars to be leaved outside the town's walls, at the only one possible parking area - outside Porta S. Giacomo along Viale Albornoz. Mini busses are available to link the parking site with the centre. Outside the town's centre is situated one of the major fare-parking- sites such as Porta Nuova (linked to the centre by moving staircases) and the underground parking site of Piazza Matteotti- at an easily walking distance to the centre.
The major external parking sites are linked to the most important monuments of the city by a public mini- bus service of line A and B. Generally speaking, the bus network in Assisi is built up by 3 main (A; B; C ;) lines that run every 20-30 minutes both to and from the city's outskirts and centre of the town.

Train

Train

From the North the main line between Florence and Rome has a station at Terontola (on the branch-line to lake Trasimene, Perugia, Assisi, Spello and Foligno), so coming from Florence there are a lot of daily trains to Terontola/Cortona that meet up with a connecting train to Assisi's Maria degli Angeli Station.
From the south, the main line between Rome and Ancona has a station at Foligno, so coming from Rome, one of the nine daily trains on the line to Ancona. Stopping at Foligno a transfer can be made to the Perugia bound train.

Being situated on a hill, the town of Assisi is connected to the rest of the country by a well- developed network of roads. The major arterial road is the SS75 with an exit to Assisi at Santa Maria degli Angeli. From the North (Milan and Florence) the best exit for Assisi is the A1 motorway at Valdichiana, where the superstrada SS75bis branches of Umbria at lake Trasimene continues towards Perugia. The A14 motorway leads down the Adriatic coast of Italy, where has an exit at Cesena for E45 superstrada to Citta di Castelo and Perugia.
